Children in Manchester are taking part in a range of activities for World Book Day as the celebration enters its 25th year.
The event, encouraging children to get reading, is being celebrated in schools in over 100 countries across the world.
Whilst some are dressing up as their favourite book character to mark the occasion, others will be going into school in their pyjamas to spend the day readings books, among other activities.
Eight-year-old Emily said: “We’re coming [into school] in our pyjamas and we’re not doing any work which my class is very excited about!
“My favourite thing about reading is you can just sit down and relax when you read a book.”
World Book Day was created by UNESCO in 1995 and is traditionally celebrated on the first Thursday of March every year.
The celebration also helps to provide a range of books for as little as £1 each, with this year’s selection including books by Matt Lucas and Michael Morpurgo.
In the 25 years of the celebration, many people have fond memories of the day from when they were younger.
Lucy Bishop, on Twitter, said: “My favourite costume was Effy from the Hunger Games! Red and orange hair and the ugliest dress you’ve ever seen”
